I'm sorry but Voices is a service that mainly, if not solely uses human voice actors, and if that service has changed, they're gonna go downhill and lose their actors. AI is not talent, and if any actors chooses to give up their opportunity to personally perform, then they lose that right as a performer.

Actually that's not correct... it's when the false vocal folds cause friction by rubbing on the vocal folds. You can vocal fry while doing a slide. It's not only existent in your lower register or when your vocal folds shorten 😊

Hi Randy, I have a question. I've been told to turn off all compressors, expanders, limiters, or gates when recording for audiobook narration. You're adding EQ and compressor before you record. I record, edit and compress to MP3 for ACX. Do you suggest adding these before I record, so I don't have to do it after? as I am acting as editor/publisher myself??

If I would be honest, I do know how to sing.. And I kinda know my vocal range when I'm singing.. But it's a different matter when I'm talking. I always feel like I'm straining my voice every time I talk because people couldn't seem to hear or understand me. 😅 What to do? How can I know whether I'm straining my voice or it's actually relaxed and it's my real voice?

Just gonna say, your basement may have actually been a pretty balanced area to record. I work construction, so Ive been in every shaped room of every shaped house, from the 10th story to -5 stories, finished, unfinished, on fire, soaking wet, Ive carpeted walls, sheetrocked floors... You get the idea. The open framing and uneven surface of the insulation acts as baffles breaking up the sound waves. Ive noticed over the years, my tools get MUCH louder when drywall starts to go up. Id argue that room is about as decent to record in as a living room with carpet and curtains. THAT BEING SAID... The difference when you put up the mats was very obvious. Reminds me of how my pencil would sound so crisp in the little partitioned desks we had in the detention rooms in high school- they were like little desk sized cubicles, as opposed to the way it sounds in a similar enclosure (crawlspace) made of concrete. Material matters big time.Thanks for all the info man, this has given me a lot of insight. Hopefully I can find a few projects that fit this battered old gravely voice of mine. People always said I gotsa face for radio.🤙

Vocal fry signals to me at least that the person/speaker has very little self-confidence. The only speech pattern worse than that is those people who say "go ahead and" every few sentences.
